Bushra Zia

In a drunken state, Michael Henchard, sells his wife, Susan, and infant daughter, Elizabeth-Jane, to a sailor. When he despairs of recovering his family, Michael swears abstinence from alcohol for twenty-one years. After the death of the sailor, Susan locates him for her daughter’s sake, only to discover that Micheal is the current Mayor of Casterbridge.

This is Hardy’s masterpiece. A psychological drama of birthright parents, life-long moral battles, and the heart felt desire to achieve salvation and acceptance.
